GÖZEUM Center

The Hasan Kalyoncu University Special Education Application and Research Center (GÖZEUM) was established pursuant to Article 7/d-2 of Higher Education Law No. 2547, and its Regulations were published in the Official Gazette dated October 10, 2016, issue No. 29853.

The Center commenced operations under the name Gaziantep Special Education Application and Research Center during the 2016–2017 academic year, at the address Emek Mahallesi, 20. Sokak No. 6, within the scope of a cooperation protocol signed between Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality and our University on 29.07.2016; it provided services at this location until May 31, 2019.

Following the expiry of the protocol, the Center has continued its activities on the Hasan Kalyoncu University Campus from the 2019–2020 academic year onwards.

MISSION

Supporting individuals with special needs and their families through evidence-based education and research

To provide individual/group training and family education programs grounded in evidence-based practices to children who need special education and their families; to support students of the Special Education Teaching department in integrating their theoretical and practical knowledge by offering application and training opportunities; to support faculty members and students of the Special Education department in conducting national/international research, studies, and applications; and to collaborate with official or private institutions and organizations to raise public awareness regarding individuals with special needs.

A center that empowers teacher candidates, raises public awareness, and leads through R&D

To enable pre-service teacher candidates enrolled in the Special Education Department to work alongside individuals with special needs and their families, carrying out practical, research, and project activities, and to develop their professional competencies; to inform families and the public about the developmental and learning processes of individuals with special needs, thereby fostering realistic expectations; to raise public awareness about the principle of early intervention, early diagnosis, early treatment, and the educational process; to conduct R&D studies in line with scientific and technological advances in the field of special education and to share results with stakeholders and families, ensuring societal impact.

Our Objectives

What Do We Do?

To assess the developmental and learning processes of children with special needs.

To assess the developmental and learning processes of children aged 0–8 who have developmental delays, disabilities, or are at developmental risk.

To prepare Individual Family Service Plans (for ages 0–3) and Individual Education Plans (for ages 3–8) for assessed children in the 0–8 age range.

To inform families in line with naturalistic teaching processes based on daily living routines.

To provide and monitor instruction through individual and small-group instructional arrangements.

To support children with developmental disabilities through transition processes such as preschool and primary school.

To ensure the participation of Special Education department students in the processes listed above.

To contribute to the literature through evidence-based research, projects, applications, and publications in the field of special education.

To contribute to services provided by collaborating with local government, health, and education sector organizations active in the field of special education.
